Arjen Anthony Lucassen - Lost in the New Real

Arjen Anthony Lucassen - Lost in The New Real Review

The man that has brought us, Ayreon, Ambeon, Star One, Stream of Passion, Guilt Machine
launched his second solo album in years after Anthony.
Arjen finally felt confident enough of his voice to bring us Lost in the New Real.
I have listened to the album many many times now and loving every moment of it.

Now as you all know I'm a huge fan of his so my opinion might be byass but still Arjen Anthony Lucassen
is a legend in himself which can not be denied.

With " Lost in the New Real " we get a very eclectic album and can hear various influences
from the Beatles, Pink Floyd and more while still getting that awesome prog sound we are used to with Arjen.

The Story of " Lost in the New Real " Follows the Story of 21st century man named Mr. L.
who chose to be locked in cryogenic stasis at the moment of his death due to a terminal decease.
The album begins as Mr. L is revived in the distant future in which they are advanced enough to cure
his decease.
Mr. L finds himself in a world that is so totally different and strange that the line between what is real and what is not
is no longer clear.

Mr. L’s appointed psychological advisor (played by legendary screen actor Rutger Hauer) Voight-Kampff (a direct reference to the cult film classic Blade-Runner)
is the psychological advisor to the central character Mr. L.
Voight-Kampff attempts to ease him into his "New Real” and is tasked with helping him emotionally adapt to this strange new world.
The songs on CD1 follow the main character Mr. L’s emotional journey as he is confronted with both serious and comical aspects of the “New Real”, and desperately tries to decide if he can find a meaningful place within it.

CD2 is a mix of cover songs and original songs that fit the concept of CD1 but didn't fit into the story.
one of my personal favorites is his cover of Pink Floyd's Welcome to the Machine.

Lost in the New Real spans over a hour and a half but you never get the urge to skip
the lyrics and music pure genius masterpiece again, words come short to describe this amazing album.
And to top it off there's a new Ayreon album coming out this year so will keep you all updated on that.
As a final word, if you haven't bought this album yet your definitely missing something in your collection.

I give this album 10 out of 10
Keep the Music Alive !
